My son murdered his own mother

Amos Nabwire Makokha was denied the opportunity to stand trial for manslaughter because his father stated he was a “violent murderer” who deserved to face the murder charge.
Justice Patrick Otieno of Kakamega denied the prosecution’s request to have Makokha face the charge for which he had previously negotiated, citing the father’s testimony as evidence that the accused deserved to stand murder trial.

“Plea bargaining would be difficult to pursue because the father is unwilling to forgive the accused, who happens to be his son.” If the accused person’s father refuses to forgive him, the murder accusation against him will be heard in full,” he said.

The prosecution was ready for the deal even as it said it had gathered 13 witnesses to testify against Makokha. He is charged with murdering Risper Nabwoba on April 15, 2021, at Emachingwe village, Eshikalame location in Mumias West. Makokha was charged with murder and, through his lawyer, requested a plea bargain to stand the lesser charge of manslaughter.

“The victim is his mother, and the witnesses against him are his father and siblings. We ask for a plea bargain to be entered,” the lawyer said.
The outraged father declared he could never forgive his son for murdering his second wife and that he had just brought home a move that infuriated Makokha.
He went on to say that his son was volatile and that on that day, Makokha fatally killed his stepmother and beat him, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
“All I want is the court’s assistance to help me correct my wayward son. He made a great mistake killing my wife. He even wounded me to the extent I cannot walk properly,” he said.
